The Berkeley, California, architectural and planning firm Urban Field Studio was engaged by Arcata to evaluate the feasibility of the current draft Form-Based Code (the Gateway Code). They were assigned four specific sites, and asked to show whether the aims and goals of the draft Gateway Area Plan could, in their view, be achieved at those sites, particularly on being able to achieve the density of housing that the draft Plan calls for.
The Urban Field Studio report came out with the July 11, 2023, Planning Commission agenda packet, on pages 76 to 86. That agenda packet is on the City’s website here.
Within that packet, in keeping with a regular, ongoing, unpleasant habit of the Community Development Department when releasing documents, there is no title, no date, no version number, and no context of what this document is or where it comes from.
Below is the full document. The reader can view my comments on this report in separate articles on Arcata1.com. For an overview of this report and the feasibility of density in the Gateway area, see the list of articles here.
The PDF file (11 pages) can be expanded to view details and can be downloaded. Below that, if it is preferable for you to view in that manner, are the 11 images of each page.
