The Agricultural Residential and Industrial Light the parcels that are proposed to be rezoned are located at the end of the red arrow, within the red ellipse.
Now let’s get our orientation a little better. The Industrial Light and the Agricultural Residential parcels are shown in bright pink.
The parcels are across Alliance Road from Shay Park, and across Alliance from Arcata High.
They are at the very edge of Arcata’s boundary. The dedicated open space of Cypress Grove Chevre is to the south, across 17th Street. The P-F Public Facility parcel that is to the west is St. Mary’s Catholic Church and schools.
A satellite view. To the right of Arcata High is Northtown. Here we can see Cypress Grove Chevre to the south — with the oval shape and the dedicated open space along 17th Street. St. Mary’s Catholic Church is to the west, on Jane’s Road. The north end of the new Gateway Area is shown, with the proposed building height of 6 stories on the former Reid & Wright lumber mill site.
A closer satellite view. Again, Cypress Grove Chevre to the south — with the oval shape and the dedicated open space along 17th Street. The very north end of the new Gateway Area is shown, with the former Reid & Wright lumber mill site.
Outside of the City boundary, to the right (West) of the two parcels, is Tule Fog Farm (not marked on this image). All the County land is agricultural.
The area within the pink boundary are proposed to be zoned as Residential High Density. In the current proposed definition, this can mean 50 apartments per acre, in 4-story buildings. Note that the eastern Agricultural-Residential parcel, which looks as though it might extend to Alliance Road, does not go all the way to Alliance Road. See the following image for why.
There are five APN parcels involved. Three parcels are currently zoned Industrial-Light, and two parcels are currently zoned Agricultural – Residential.
Total area that was proposed to be rezoned as Residential High Density: ~ 10.5 acres. For details on each parcel, see Notes and details, below.
The railroad rights-of-way are actual APN-designated parcels with independent parcel numbers. APN 505-161-031 is split into two non-contiguous pieces. The railroad parcels are not included in the proposed rezoning.
And a closer satellite view.
