Re: Will there be an audio or live video recording of the September 26 Study Session ?
Hello, Sarah, Scott, Karen, and David —
I support your decision to have the next CC-PC study session as a “round table” seating
arrangement. As I mentioned at the Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday, you learned a lot from that first study session on August 22. What I’d like to see for you to build on what you experienced and schedule more round-table study sessions, just on Gateway. Perhaps two or three more, in addition to the September 26 meeting.
I understand the technical issues having microphones and video coverage of a round-table
meeting.
At the PC meeting on Tuesday, David remarked “The mayor is working on a plan to ensure that
folks who are only able to Zoom in, do have access to make comments.”
There’s an implication there that the full meeting will not be available on Zoom?
Will the study session be both recorded and live on Zoom?
Please let me know if I can help. If you don’t have facilities to do the video recording, I can at
least put audio recordings of the study sessions on Arcata1.com
I made audio recordings of the August 23, 2022, CC-PC study session. That webpage has over
520 views / listenings. I made audio recordings of the Council meeting with Committee Chairs
from Feb 21, 2023 — over 200 views there. I personally paid for the video recording of the first
Form-Based Code meeting with Ben Noble, on February 11, 2023.
The cost for hiring Eric Black to make a video recording of the study session would be $175-
$200. His video would be a bit crude (unedited) but a whole lot better than not having a
recording. An example of what it might be like is the Ben Noble meeting, shown here, but I think
he can do better than that with a little instruction.
Technical ideas:
Using several conference microphones at the tables. I imagine the City has these. I can
borrow one if needed.

The County Supervisors chamber uses a series of video cameras, mounted on tripods at
the floor level, that are remotely zoomed, panned, controlled, etc. These cameras are in
the $250-$600 price range each. Three or so might be needed.
Thank you.
